Flax Seed Oil For Dogs
Flax seed oil for dog is a popular way of ensuring that our canine companies receive sufficient amounts of beneficial fatty acids. Just like humans, dogs needs fatty acids to survive and providing them with the right ratio between the various acids is important. Flax seed oil for dog seem to reduce the risk of inflammations, but more research is needed before anyone can no for sure exactly how this works. It is also very common for dogs to develop more shiny and healthy skin and coat after receiving flax seed oil for dog.
Flax seed oil contains ALA, which can be converted into EPA and DHA by dogs and humans. If you instead have a cat, you should ideally give it fish oil instead of flax seed oil for dog, because the cat body does not convert ALA very efficiently. In coldwater fish, ALA present in algae has already been converted into EPA and DHA, which means that the cat does not have to do it. For dogs, you can use flax seed oil, fish oil, or ideally a combination of both.
Flax seed oil for dog can be obtained in the form of clear oil in a bottle or flax seed oil gel capsules. Buying a bottle is usually less expensive than using gel capsules, and since dogs prefer to eat food rather than swallowing capsules you should ideally open up the capsules and pour the gel over the dog food anyway. Keep in mind that flax seed oil in a bottle can go rancid. Store it in a dark place, ideally in the refrigerator, and do not buy huge bottles unless you have many dogs.
