Flax seed oil and hair is a heavily debated area. Many people claim that their hair got healthier, shinier and thicker when they started to include flax seed oil in their daily diet. Other claim that this is simply a placebo effect caused by positive expectations. Those who claim that flax seed oil and hair was a match made in heaven believe that providing your body with an ideal ratio between Omega 3 and Omega 6 essential fatty acids is imperative in order to promote healthy hair in both men and women. We already know for sure that each cell membrane in the human body contains essential fatty acids, and that hair grow from hair cells. Essential fat is necessary to keep our cell membranes smooth and soft, and a cell that receives sufficient amounts of beneficial fatty acids will be better at controlling which substances that enters and exits the cell. Without adequate amounts of essential fatty acids, the hair cell, as well as any other cell, will not be able to retain enough water. A hair cell that is given ample amounts of beneficial fatty acids will do a better job when it comes to growing hair, and this is how flax seed oil and hair is connected to each other.
